Epigenetic aging and GxE: Do family formation decisions, and socioeconomic shocks (such as job loss) affect epigenetic ageing?

This project will investigate how life course decisions (such as family formation/dissolution, childbearing) and socioeconomic shocks (such as job loss, family bereavement) affect epigenetic ageing. It combines information on epigenetic markers collected in surveys such as Understanding Society and ALSPAC with polygenic scores derived from genotyped data. This project will investigate how the G×E interplay affects epigenetic ageing using the state-of-the-art techniques, as well as statistical analysis of methylation CpG sites. The project will also involve developing the methodology to analyse a large amount of information derived from epigenetic markers and combine it with existing studies using polygenic scores to understand how epigenetic mechanisms mediate genetic predisposition.

This project is hosted at University of Bologna.
